Myosa® for TMJBDS® Stage 1 - S1 Establish a functional airway and habit correction The Myosa®for TMJBDS®S1 is used in patients with a Breath Hold Time (BHT) of 20 seconds or more. It works by advancing the sleeper’s lower jaw and opening the bite, which has the effect of opening the airway. Additionally, the S1 has four breathing holes at the front to regulate breathing. For better retention during sleep, the patient can use the mouldable version of the S1 appliance (S1M). Progress to the S2 when the patient’s BHT reaches 35 seconds or more.
Myosa® for TMJBDS® Stage 2 - S2 Transition to nasal breathing and habit correction The Myosa® for TMJBDS® S2 is used in the second stage of treatment when the patient's Breath Hold Time (BHT) has reached 35 seconds or more. The S2 is the main appliance in the TMJBDS® range and works by advancing the lower jaw and opening the bite, which has the effect of opening the airway. It also has numerous other features which help it to treat intracapsular TMJ disorders while improving breathing and myofunctional disorders. For better retention during sleep, the patient can use the mouldable version of the S2 appliance (S2M). Progress to the S3 when the patient’s BHT reaches 45 seconds or more.
Myosa® for TMJBDS® Stage 2 Mouldable - S2M Mouldable version of the S2 for optimum overnight retention The Myosa® for TMJBDS® S2 Mouldable (S2M) is used overnight only in patients who are using the S2 appliance but are struggling to retain it overnight. It is made with dual-layered technology which provides a soft outer layer and hard inner core to prevent appliance distortion during moulding. Eventually, the goal is to transition the patient to using the non-mouldable appliances so they can close their mouth overnight naturally.
Myosa® for TMJBDS® Stage 3 - S3 Establish nasal breathing and correct TMJ function The Myosa® for TMJBDS® S3 is used in the third and final stage of treatment, when the patient's Breath Hold Time (BHT) has reached 45 seconds or more. The S3 is primarily designed to finalise the establishment of nasal breathing, while improving breathing and myofunctional disorders. The S3 can also serve as a transition appliance between the first and second phase of TMJBDS® treatment, involving arch development in combination with the Myobrace® appliances. It is for this reason that the S3 is a derivative of the Myobrace®A1 appliance.
Myosa® for TMJBDS® Stage 1 Mouldable - S1M Mouldable version of the S1 for optimum overnight retention The Myosa® for TMJBDS®S1 Mouldable (S1M) is used overnight only in patients who are using the S1H or S1 appliance but are struggling to retain it overnight. It is made with dual-layered technology which provides a soft outer layer and hard inner core to prevent appliance distortion during moulding. Eventually, the goal is to transition the patient to using the non-mouldable appliances so they can close their mouth overnight naturally.
Myosa® for TMJBDS® Stage 1 Hybrid - S1H Establish a functional airway and permits active exercises The Myosa® for TMJBDS® S1H is specifically designed for patients who are breathing and disordered sleep (BDS) primary with moderate to severe BDS as indicated by a Breath Hold Time (BHT) of 20 or less. These patients may or may not have TMJ disorders, but due to the severity of their BDS, they require immediate improvement of their airway. The features of the appliance not only work to open the airway, but also allow patients to undertake initial exercising of the lip, tongue and airway muscles. Progress to the S1 when the patient’s BHT reaches 20 seconds or more. |
