Scandette (An All Purpose Curette) Same Instrument as Double Gracey Anterior

A Double Gracey instrument featuring two cutting edges allows adaptability to mesial and distal surfaces. A rounded toe enables safer access to subgingival areas. The Scandette combines the best features of Gracey 11-12 and Gracey 13-14 and enables shifting from tooth to tooth without changing instruments.

+ Enables a 12 o’clock ergonomic position for the duration of cleaning
+ Allows clinician to keep lower shank parallel to tooth surface (axis), similar to traditional Gracey instrumentation
+ Maneuver between mesial and distal surfaces without switching or flipping instruments
+ Enables clinician to scale from light to heavy calculus
+ Rounded toe provides safe access for subgingival scaling

WHAT ARE DOUBLE GRACEY™ INSTRUMENTS?
Truly a double Gracey design, these instruments combine the best features of Gracey and Universal curettes. Double Gracey instruments have rounded toes and two (2) cutting edges. Advantages of using Double Graceys include easy adaptation to mesial and distal surfaces, as well as buccal and lingual surfaces, without switching or repositioning the instrument. The Mini versions allow easier access into deeper pockets, tighter interproximal areas, and furcations. All Double Gracey instruments are sharpen-free with American Eagle Instruments’ patented XP Technology.

*All Double Gracey Curettes replace Universal Curettes.

The face of a Double Gracey is raised, thus creating two slightly sloped faces, approximately 110 degrees, measured from the terminal (lower) shank. The face and blade angles allow the practitioner to use Double Gracey instruments exactly how they would use traditional Gracey curettes—the terminal shank parallel to the tooth axis while performing the cleaning.

DOUBLE GRACEY ANTERIOR & MINI ANTERIOR
• Enables clinician to scale from light to heavy calculus
• Maneuver between buccal and lingual surfaces without switching position
• XP  Technology creates less sensitivity on cementum

DOUBLE GRACEY POSTERIOR & MINI POSTERIOR
• Enables clinician to remain in a 12 o’clock ergonomic position for the duration of cleaning
• Allows clinician to keep lower shank parallel to tooth surface
• Maneuver between mesial and distal surfaces without switching position

WHAT IS XP  TECHNOLOGY?

NO MORE SHARPENING
XP Technology is a patented surface engineering process. This technology is a proprietary process in which the metallurgical composition of the instrument’s surface is enhanced, giving it the properties of a much more durable material. This process allows us to put a much sharper edge onto a thinner blade, eliminating the time-consuming and imperfect process of sharpening your instruments.

ROCKWELL  HARDNESS – 89 Rc
Standard dental instruments are manufactured using stainless and carbon steels, reaching a Rockwell scale hardness of between 58 and 63. The special characteristics of XP Technology achieve an incredible Rockwell  scale hardness of 89. This makes our instruments the most durable instruments on the market.

OVER 100 TIMES GREATER WEAR RESISTANCE
Independent studies have shown XP Technology to be a revolutionary technical advancement in the dental industry. Dr. Phillip A. Watson from the University of Toronto was able to prove the phenomenal wearability of instruments manufactured with XP Technology over the same instruments produced with the best available stainless steel.

How to properly use XP TECHNOLOGY

Holding the instrument
Barely hold the instrument using a light, “exploratory scaling” touch.
Shave through calculus using a few light strokes; do not fracture off calculus.

Benefits
+ A lighter touch aids in ergonomic hand protection and minimizes the risk of wrist/hand problems
+ A lighter touch increases instrument longevity
+ Less likely to burnish calculus with an always-sharp blade
+ Saves time
+ Enhances patient comfort
+ Decreases scaling noise for auditory comfort
+ Less lateral pressure for scaling efficacy

Guidelines:
+ XP instruments are designed for fine subgingival scaling and root planing. Avoid using them on margins and overhangs.
+ You don’t need to change the way you scale or root plane; simply use less force and a lighter grip.
+Due to a thinner blade design, we do not recommendthat you re-sharpen your XP instruments.
+With proper use and maintenance, you can expect your XP instruments to last as long as your stainless steel instruments, without needing to re-sharpen.
